The Reason for this Season

I know, that we all know the "reason for the season". Most of us will probably answer "Well Christ's Birth of course!" Most of our parents try to refocus us on the concept that Christmas isn't what the world has made it (Gifts and all about "ME" aspects) but about Christ. And I know we can all give the answer back that '"we know". But, see, it's not even about the Birth of Christ. It's about why He came here. Why we're all here. We're here to Glorify God, In Psalms 19:1 David wrote this "The heavens declare the glory of God;  the skies proclaim the work of his hands." God is a jealous god. Everything you see around you was created to glorify God. From the beginning of time, we were made to Glorify Him. Christ came to earth to Glorify Him, he died to Glorify Him. You were born to Glorify Your heavenly Father! Pretty awesome when you think about it. :) So, this Christmas as you're opening presents and...

Custom Designed Hands

"The silence isn't so bad 'Til I look at my hands and feel sad 'Cause the spaces between my fingers Are right where yours fit perfectly" Vanilla Twilight- Owl City Yes, this is one of those "cute" songs, and it IS cute! But that's not why I'm talking about it here. I'm talking about the last two lines that I posted. Have you ever thought about the fact that Your hands are made just so? That the person you'll marry's hands are made just so to fit with your's? Your hands aren't randomly made. They were custom designed!  Just a random thought. =) In Christ Alone -Sara Jean

When The Waters Rise

"Don't know where to begin It's like my world's caving in And I try but I can't control my fear Where do I go from here? Sometimes its so hard to pray When You feel so far away But I am willing to go Where you want me to God, I trust You There's a raging sea Right in front of me Wants to pull me in Bring me to my knees So let the waters rise  I f You want them to I will follow You I will follow You" - Mikeschair "Let The Waters Rise "  (Link) I've been listening to this song a lot lately. At this point in time, my future and the unknowns associated with that are like this raging sea. There's a whole lot of stuff out there, Bad and good, somewhere out there amongst everything else and everyone else's future is mine. The worldly things tend to bring me to my knees in confusion. The futures of the world's and the futures of God's so greatly differ. A little later in the song is states this " God, You ...

My Will or His?

"I am Yours regardless of The dark clouds that may loom above Because You are much greater than my pain You who made a way for me By suffering Your destiny So tell me what's a little rain So I pray Bring me joy, bring me peace Bring the chance to be free Bring me anything that brings You glory And I know there'll be days When this life brings me pain But if that's what it takes to praise You Jesus, bring the rain..." -Mercy Me, Jesus Bring the Rain It's weird to say I'm a senior now, but there's no denying the facts, as much as I sometimes wish I could. I've had children cry on my shoulder when they found out I wasn't going to be here next year, and that breaks my heart. Every moment spent with my family becomes more precious to me, the littlest things are tucked away in my memory to remember them by when I'm gone. But while I am sad to leave home, part of me is very much ready to do so. But that brings me to the title of my blog...

To Pursue Excellence in Writing

Now, I'll tell you off the bat, I am not an excellent writer, I don't excel in this area or anything. But, I have this pet peeve, and as readers it should be everyone's pet peeve. When I think of an amazing piece of literature, I think of Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis, Jane Austen (getting my drift?). These are all writers which knew and understood the language they wrote in, the could give explanations of the worst parts to the best parts of the book in a way that showed their understanding of the English language they worked with. I have recently dropped from an English class which so quickly taught me why I have often stayed away from modern literature. I know Stephen King is a highly praised author and all, and he is a decent writer, but the first thing I noticed in his book On Writing  was that he seemed to have this intense desire to express himself by swearing in his writing.  In my mind, if y...

To Fear God

I work at a camp up north basically every summer. This camp holds a dear spot in my heart as I've spent one week there every summer since 3rd Grade. Each week they invite pastors and youth pastors from different churches across the state to do the speaking for that week. I always love the speakers, but this year I quickly noticed I had a theological issue with his theology. The theme for the summer was from Deuteronomy 6:13 - " Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name." (NIV) He starts with talking about how the fear we should have for the LORD our God, is the same kind of fear that we have for a tornado, or a killer. I'm sorry, but this is where I'll step in. Yes, we need to fear our Lord, but not the same way you fear a killer.  There are many meanings behind the word fear, the two I will talk about here are these- Fear (noun): 1.   A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger. 2.  Ex...

Rejoicing With Those Who Rejoice

I have a hard time being happy with those who are happy… OK. Well not all the time… just when I really wish I was in their shoes. But I am constantly reminded that I’m not in their shoes for a reason, and that God knows the reason, even though I sit and shed tears over it.  Somewhere out there is His plan for me, and I have only to follow His will and find it. Well, I guess find it isn’t even the right thing to call it, who are we to “find” it? God knew where it was all along, He was just waiting for us to see it at the moment He has planned for us to see it. Personally, when it comes to rejoicing, I’d much rather rejoice with those who rejoice; BUT, only when it is for MY better too…  I guess it’s part of that sinful nature we are all born with, the desire to please ourselves. Life would be so much easier without that desire to please one’s self. I commented the other day to our exchange student that “wouldn’t it be so much easier if we all learned lessons the Veggie Ta...

It's Alive!

2 Timothy 4:3   (New International Version) For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. Youch ... pretty harsh verse, isn't it? I've always viewed this verse as if it was for other people. You know, the  non-believers ? But lately I can see it apply to believers, like myself. We so often read between the lines of the Bible to see what  we  want to see, not what  God  wants us to see. I think this verse becomes true when we stop looking at the Bible like every word can be applied to our life, and it become more of a history book then the  Word of God.  God wrote each verse for us, and it might even have different meanings at different times in a person life. In  Hebrews 4:12   (New International Version) it says - " For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any do...
